Surgical Precision. Structure. Atmosphere.

Based in Birmingham, I am a photographer working across architecture, travel, environmental and people photography, drawn to the intersection of geometry, high-contrast light, and atmosphere. My work explores the city’s quiet, cinematic moments, seeking out the interplay of bold shadows, brutalist structures, and mysterious light.

My creative practice is deeply shaped by more than twenty years of experience as a surgeon, specialising in the endourology of kidney stones — work carried out almost entirely through miniature cameras. Guiding endoscopes and viewing on large screens through the body’s architecture, where patience and precision are required to achieve optimal outcomes, has given me my own visual discipline. That same instinct guides my lens across diverse landscapes, balancing a dual devotion to structural geometry and patient documentation — from minimalist street photography to the expansive wilderness of New Zealand’s South Island and the kinetic energy of the Glastonbury festivals.

Beyond the city, I am drawn to the language of modern art — to simplicity, abstraction and the quiet power of a reduced frame. My favourite modern artists include Joan Miró, Georges Seurat, Anish Kapoor, Wolfgang Tillmans, Alex Webb, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Andreas Gursky and Evgenia Arbugaeva. I find this most readily in the outdoors, where landscape and light take a scene back to bold essentials. I enjoy photography that shows the impact of humanity on the environment — the marks we leave, and the fragile balance between the built and the natural world.
