Blue Hour

I recently got a new lightweight travel tripod (a Manfrotto BeFree), so I thought I would get a grip on the controls and set up in my local area. I chose Royal William Yard, a location I had photographed before but never during the blue hour — the time before sunrise and after sunset when the colours of the sky turn mainly blue. That particular evening offered clear, still conditions with striking sky colours and light from the staircase.
Royal William Yard is a wonderful example of Victorian architecture. It was designed by Sir John Rennie — who also designed London Bridge — and built between 1825 and 1831. It is the largest collection of Grade I listed military buildings in Europe. After being decommissioned in 1992 it was restored into mixed-use retail and residential space.
The cantilevered staircase, created by Gillespie Yunnie Architects, connects the Yard to the South West Coast Path and features changing LED coloured lights that animate the structure at night. Please leave any feedback on the photographs below.
